Who we are
Official language schools (EOI) are public centers dedicated to language learning for adults. The purpose of the language lessons taught there is the development of:
- the ability of students to effectively use the language as a vehicle for general communication
- recognition and respect for linguistic and cultural diversity as a tool for dialogue between peoples
The Official Language School of Barcelona-Drassanes ( EOIBD ) was created by Decree 3134/1964, of September 24, and is currently governed by the Organic Law on Education of April 20, 2006.
The EOIBD is the oldest of the EOIs in Catalonia , it depends on the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya and is part of the network of EOIs throughout Spain.
At EOIBD you can study 15 languages: German, English, Arabic, Catalan, Korean, Spanish for foreigners, Basque, French, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese. The Department of Special Courses currently also offers classes in Hebrew, Polish, Swedish and Turkish, but not with the category of a regulated course.
This linguistic and cultural variety makes our center a privileged place for dialogue, appreciation and cultivation of diversity.
Mission, vision and values
Mission
The EOI of Barcelona-Drassanes is a public center where you can learn up to 18 languages. It also offers specialized language courses, culture courses, language teacher training courses, etc., and certifies the level of linguistic competence through unified, validated tests related to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference.
These courses are aimed at citizens of Catalonia over 16 years of age (and in the case of languages not studied in ESO, from 14 years of age) with an interest in learning different languages as a reflection of cultures and/or certifying their knowledge, in an efficient and affordable way, as a tool for human and professional training. The Official Language School of Barcelona-Drassanes contributes to the creation of a multilingual social model that promotes tolerance and equality based on what they can learn from and with each other and as a social space for intercultural encounters.
Vision
Our school wants to be a reference EOI in Catalonia that can provide ideas and training to the rest of Catalan EOI.
We want to become a model of management and internal and external communication thanks to good technological equipment, the selection and reception of new teachers, the evaluation of teaching practice, the approval of educational practices in the classroom and the development of online learning materials. All this, to satisfy the increasingly strong social demand for competence in different languages through different modalities of face-to-face and blended learning complemented with other activities outside the classroom in an interactive and participatory manner.
The EOIBD wants to respond to social demand by incorporating new languages and new levels of learning and offering specific courses that derive from them.
Values
- Willingness to face changes by introducing innovation

- Work organization based on the autonomy of the center

- Shared and cooperative leadership
- Professionalism
