Who are we?
The Official Language Schools are public centres dedicated to the teaching of languages to adults. The aim of those languages taught here is to develop:
- the student’s ability to use a language effectively as a vehicle for general communication.
- the acknowledgement of and respect for linguistic and cultural diversity as a tool for dialogue between different peoples.
The Official Language School Barcelona Drassanes (EOIBD) was created by decree 3134/1964 on the 24th of September and is currently governed by the Organic Law of Education of the 2th of April 2006.
The EOIBD is the oldest of the EOIs in Catalonia. It is part of the Departament d’Educació de la Generalitat de Catalunya and of the network of EOIs in all Spain.
At the EOIBD 15 languages can be studied: Arabic, Basque, Catalan, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish for foreigners. The Department of Special Courses now also offers Hebrew, Polish, Swedish and Turkish classes, but not as a regular attendance course.
This linguistic and cultural variety turns our centre into a privileged place for dialogue, where diversity is both valued and cultivated.
